Community Development
The Community Development Department is responsible for current and long range planning, building permitting and inspections, and code enforcement to support the responsible and coordinated growth and development of the community. The Department also provides staff assistance to the City's Planning Commission, Parks Advisory Board and Hearings Examiner.
The Department oversees the periodic update of the City's Comprehensive Plan, Capital Facilities Plan, and development regulations to ensure compliance with the Growth Management Act (GMA). The Department also is involved in inter-agency coordination at local, state and federal levels.
The Department is responsible for enforcing the State Building Code and associated City amendments. The Department accepts and reviews building permit applications, issues permits, arranges inspections, and approves construction by issuing a Certificate of Occupancy. The Department is a member of the Washington Association of Building Officials and the International Code Council.
